There is this place in the San Diego Bay with the most humble yet heavenly scene: a little pier next to the bait shop. Fishermen throw away fish here, at the gate of the Bay and great wide Pacific Ocean and the pier is filled with a Noahian crowd catching the unused bate: gentle harbor seals, graceful sea lions, curious brown pelicans, nervous cormorants and slick seagulls finding any inch of landing space form 30 feet from the air. They gather so closely to each other, it looks like the pier is taking off to an enticing sea tour any minute and nobody wants to miss it.
