There is this place in the San Diego Bay with the most humble yet heavenly scene: a little pier next to the bait shop. Fishermen throw away fish here, at the gate of the Bay and great wide Pacific Ocean and the pier is filled with a Noahian crowd catching the unused bate: gentle harbor seals, graceful sea lions, curious brown pelicans, nervous cormorants and slick seagulls finding any inch of landing space form 30 feet from the air. They gather so closely to each other, it looks like the pier is taking off to an enticing sea tour any minute and nobody wants to miss it.

I survived the most stressful week of this decade. Just never wanted to end.
I learned that stress is not just everything coming at you with your hands already full flying the plane with broken wings. Stress is accepting that all of it is  important, life and death important… and has to be dealt with, stress is coming from within. Cool people are not better catching babies falling from the sky, they are better at turning around and walking away. They wear headphones all the time anyway, so that at least they can’t hear.

space

Americans are obsessed with space from the day they are born. They are obsessed with every aspect of increasing the distance and space between them and the next person in every phase of their lives. They build bigger cars, wider highways and bigger houses than anyone else in the world.  Kids are obsessed living as far away as they can from their parents, moving out as early as they can. At the end, a thanksgiving dinner will involve 20,000 travel miles. People don’t learn to tolarate each other: they learn to make enough money to buy enough space to be away enough from each other.

People growing up in dense cities ultimately have a competitive edge: they won’t spend 50% of their income on monster trucks, gasoline to run them, kitchen extensions, 2nd and 3rd floors on the house, or the RV to go to the desert with 50 miles from the next living soul. So lonely it becomes, the price of space ends up to be growing old without a neighbor, friends, and an interacting society.
